Patients under the age of 20 or over the age of 64 are covered under OHIP on a yearly basis. You simply need to show your health card at your visit. Under the last provincial budget, patients between the ages of 20 and 64 are no longer covered for optometric eye examinations. These services are still available to you on a cash payment basis, but may be covered by third party or employer health benefits. Check with your employer or benefits department to see if you have coverage for these services, and then contact us to schedule an appointment.
Also, patients who are covered by insurance programs through their employers are advised to investigate their coverage prior to coming for their examination. This is the information that we currently have from the government. We will post further information as it arises on this site. You can also check the Ontario Association of Optometrists’ website for more information.
Questions and concerns about OHIP and covered services can be directed to OHIP or to your local MPP.
The fee for a complete eye examination depends on the length of time since you were last in our office, if you have been in before, or the services you require. Please contact our office for our current fee schedule. A complete eye and vision health examination includes evaluation of eyes individually and as a coordinated team, health of the interior and exterior structures, as well as optical needs for optimum vision. All of our examinations include testing to detect eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and diabetes.
Contact lens wearing patients require extra testing to evaluate the health of the eye as it relates to the contact lens wear, as well as changes in the needs of the contact lens prescription. There is an additional charge for those patients.
Fees for examinations are payable at the time of service. We are happy to accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, cheque or debit. Please note that there is a $25 administration fee for missed appointments, or appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice. If you have more questions, or would like to schedule an appointment, just contact us today.
